2 NOTE On 14 July 1894 the will of Jacob Kieffer was proven in Niagara
3 CONT County, New York:
3 CONT I, Jacob Kieffer, being of sound mind and memory aware
3 CONT of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death and
3 CONT desirous of making an equitable and proper disposition of my
3 CONT property at my decease.  I do make ordain, publish and declare
3 CONT this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form
3 CONT following, that is to say.
3 CONT First.  After all my lawful debts, funeral expenses and
3 CONT expenses of administration are paid and discharged I give
3 CONT devise and bequeth unto my beloved wife Esther Kieffer, the
3 CONT use, rent, income, issue and profit of my home farm, consisting
3 CONT of about one hundred fifteen acres situate in said Town of
3 CONT Lockport upon which I now live and have lived for many years
3 CONT for and during the term of her natural life; or at her election
3 CONT and in the place and stead of the foregoing devise and bequest,
3 CONT the sum of four thousand dollars absolutely and to be her own
3 CONT property.
3 CONT And I also give and bequeath unto my said wife, Esther
3 CONT Kieffer, all the household goods, furniture and effects of
3 CONT every name and description, which I shall own at the time of my
3 CONT decease and the sum of five hundred dollars in money,
3 CONT absolutely and to be her own property.
3 CONT The foregoing provision for my said wife if accepted
3 CONT shall be in lieu of all her rights of dower in all my real
3 CONT property and in lieu of her distrubutive share and interest and
3 CONT rights of exemption in and to my personal property.
3 CONT All the rest, residue and remainder of my property both
3 CONT real and personal I give, devise and bequeath unto my children
3 CONT Sarah E. Preisch, Julia A. Goodlander, Jesse E. Kieffer, Esther
3 CONT E. Cole [sic, Kohl], Florence A. Preisch, Anna L. Shimer, Lydia
3 CONT A. Kayner, George J. Kieffer and Mary Ellen Kieffer, share and
3 CONT share alike and in equal portions to be distributed and divided
3 CONT amongst them by my executor hereinafter named as hereinafter
3 CONT provided.
3 CONT Third.  I do hereby authorize, empower and direct my
3 CONT Executor herinafter named to sell and convey all my property
3 CONT both real and personal at such time or times and in such manner
3 CONT and upon such terms as my executor shall deem to be for the
3 CONT best interests of the parties interested and reduce the same
3 CONT into money or its equivilent and to divide and distribute the
3 CONT proceeds thereof, among the persons and in the the manner
3 CONT herein before provided and specified.
3 CONT In case my said wife shall elect to take the use of my
3 CONT home farm during her life as above provided, then and in that
3 CONT case the sale thereof shall be deferred until after the time of
3 CONT her death.
3 CONT Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint my said son,
3 CONT George J. Kieffer, of the Town of Lockport, aforesaid, to be my
3 CONT executor sole of this my last Will and Testament, hereby
3 CONT revoking all former Wills by me made.

3 CONT yesterday with great pleasure and was glad to hear that you was
3 CONT well   Today I was at the schoolhouse to hear a funeral sermon
3 CONT preached for Lewis Henollof who died in october some time and
3 CONT two weeks ago Jacob Fetterman was preached   perhaps you may
3 CONT have heard it before   Mother Buchanan and Mother Raymond are
3 CONT no more   they are numbered with the dead which we all shall be
3 CONT sooner or later   Mother Raymond came home to Hannahs and

3 CONT determined it was possibly right on the border of Lycoming
3 CONT County and Northumberland County since the seller of the land
3 CONT lived in Lycoming County.  Muncy Township, Lycoming County is
3 CONT on the very northern border of Northumberland County.  When the
3 CONT land was purchased in 1837 Muncy Township, Lycoming County
3 CONT bordered Turbot Township.  However, in 1843 Delaware Township
3 CONT and Lewis Township were formed from the northern part of Turbot
3 CONT Township and their northern borders then became the border with
3 CONT Muncy Township, Lycoming County.  Later Northumberland County
3 CONT records connect George Kieffer with both Delaware and Lewis

3 CONT to the Knepply family of Upper Saucon Township.  Peter Knepply
3 CONT was an early settler and land owner in Upper Saucon Township.
3 CONT Some of Peter Knepply's children were baptized at St. Paul's
3 CONT Lutheran and Reformed Congregation in Upper Saucon Township.
3 CONT Peter Knepply died in Upper Saucon Township about 1795 and left
3 CONT a family of 5 boys and 2 girls.  At the time of his death he
3 CONT owned 3 tracts of land totaling 127 acres in Upper Saucon
3 CONT Township and an 18 acre tract in Salisbury Township.  Peter
3 CONT Knepply's son Jacob (born about 1782) sponsored the baptism of
3 CONT George Kieffer's son Jacob in 1813 at the Frieden's Church in

3 CONT of Jacob Knepply as "tailor" and listed the occupation of

3 CONT Huntington, State of Indiana being aware of the uncertainty of
3 CONT life, and being of sound mind and memory do make and declare
3 CONT this to be my last Will and testament in manner following to
3 CONT wit:
3 CONT First: I give devise and bequeath to my beloved Hannah
3 CONT Keefer one third of my Real Estate being my farm in Section
3 CONT thirty three in Township twenty nine North Range ten east, and
3 CONT the sum of Five Hundred dollars to be paid her by my Executors

3 CONT I John M. Keefer of Roanoke Ind., being of sound mind and
3 CONT disposing memory, do make this my last will in manner and form
3 CONT as follows:
3 CONT Item 1: I give to my wife, Marietta Keefer, out of my
3 CONT estate whatever the law gives to her, and I ask my executor to
3 CONT treat her with fairness in every particular.
3 CONT Item 2: I give to my daughter, Pearl I. (Keefer) Miles,
3 CONT now in the "East Haven Hospital", located at or near Richmond
3 CONT Ind., during her life time, the one-sixth in value of all my
3 CONT estate, after my debts and expenses are paid and my wife's
3 CONT shaare shall be paid to her; then at her death I give the same
3 CONT one-sixth to her son John Miles, with the understanding and
3 CONT upon the condition that in the event he dies without issue
3 CONT before he arrives at the age of 21 years, then the share that
3 CONT was to become his shall go to and become the property of my two
3 CONT sons Edwin and Frank in equal proportion.
3 CONT Item 3: I give to my two sons Edwin A. Keefer and Frank M.
3 CONT Keefer, the balance of my property both real and personal in
3 CONT equal proportion: My son Frank owes me in the neighborhood of
3 CONT $600.00, for which I now hold his six promisory notes as
3 CONT follows; One of $136.00 dated Aug. 8, 1908; one of $33.52 dated
3 CONT Jan. 6, 1909; one of $110.00 dated Jan. 1, 1906; one of $70.00
3 CONT date Mar. 3, 1908; one of $65.00 dated May 29, 1906 and one of
3 CONT $95.00 dated Dec. 7, 1907.  These notes have some small
3 CONT payments endorsed on the back of them, but the principal and
3 CONT some interest thereon is yet due me.  Edwin owes me in the
3 CONT neighborhood of $100.00, for which I hold his two notes as
3 CONT follows; one of $50.00 dated Oct. 27, 1911 and one of $125.00
3 CONT dated Sept. 1, 1906, upon which last note there are several
3 CONT payments noted.  These notes with their accrued interest shall
3 CONT be taken into account at the settlement of my estate.
3 CONT Item 4: I desire that my son shall see in case of my
3 CONT daughters death that she is brought home and given a
3 CONT respectable burial in the Zion Cemetery in Jackson Township and
3 CONT shall have a suitable monument placed to her grave.
3 CONT Item 5: I direct my executor to sell all my personal and
3 CONT real property under the order of the Court and to distribute
3 CONT the proceeds theseof according to the provisions of this Will.
3 CONT Item 6: I also direct and request my executor and my sons
3 CONT to enquire into the condition of my Grandson, John Miles, and
3 CONT if he or they think best to have him removed to a private home,
3 CONT then I ask the Court to direct them or either of them to find a
3 CONT suitable home for the boy in some private family and to pay a
3 CONT reasonable sum, either out of my estate or out of my daughters
3 CONT share, for his care and support until he can earn his own way.
3 CONT Item 7: I hereby nominate and appoint my brother, Chas. f.

2 NOTE On 21 January 1865, during the Civil War, John M. Keefer
3 CONT enlisted in the Union Army and was assigned to Company B, 153rd
3 CONT Indiana Volunteer Infantry.  About June of 1865 while at
3 CONT Hoskinsville, Kentucky he became quite will with stomach
3 CONT problems.  He tried to march with his unit to Clarksville,
3 CONT Tennessee but was unable to do so because of his weakened
3 CONT condition and had to be transported to Clarksville.  After
3 CONT Clarksville he and his unit went to Louisville, Kentucky and he
3 CONT continued to have health problems. He was discharged on 4
3 CONT September 1865 in Indianapolis.  He later received an invalid
3 CONT pension for health problems contracted during his military
3 CONT service.

3 CONT Kieffer was listed in her household.  Mary Beaver died in 1878
3 CONT and was buried in Lewis Township.  The gravestones of Samuel
3 CONT and Mary spell their name "Bieber" rather than "Beaver".  At
